Calpe
the artists town, is a typical Spanish seaside town which has
developed around the Old Town area.It is overlooked by the spectacular 332 metre high Rock
of Ifach (Penon), now a nature reserve, which separates Calpe's
two main blue flag beaches and the fishing port and marina area. |
Calpe Old Town is beginning to attract more visitors, with
its museums, picturesque little streets, squares and many bars and
restaurants. Calpe will surprise you with its daring contrasts, where
modern buildings and wide avenues harmonize with an ancient fishing
village, where locals are proud of their past, yet welcome tourists
and visitors with warm hearts. The two superb sandy blue flag beaches
are divided by the 'Peñón de Ifach' rock. There is a great choice
of restaurants and bars around the fishing harbour, marina plus many
interesting shops, boutiques.
Benidorm, some thirty minutes away by car, provides
many entertainment options including the Terra Mitica Theme park and
the Aqualandia Water Park. Places worth a visit inland are the mountain
village of Guadelest, the Jalon Valley and the safari parks at Aitana
and Vergel. The nearby towns of Moraira, Denia, Javea, Altea and Gata
are also worth a visit.
Sport in and around Calpe are enhanced by its fishing
and activity facilities, making it one of the best sea ports in Spain.
There are facilities for all types of sport, the Yacht Clubs and marinas
have facilities for all types of water sports, boat tours, sailing,
fishing, scuba diving, water skiing, windsurfing etc. For the golfer
there are the 9 hole Ifach Golf Club, the 18 hole
La Sella Golf, 18 hole Seve Ballesteros designed
course in Oliva Nova and two 18 hole courses in Benidorm.
A number of sports clubs and associations in the area promote 4x4
Safaris, tennis, bowls and cycling. Families are well catered for
with tennis at the local Club Tennis (clay courts about 5 mins drive
away with English speaking Tuition) |
